Dog Bolting From Car - How to Get Your Dog to Stop This Dangerous Habit

Bolting from the car can be very dangerous for your dog. Sometimes they come out so fast you can't catch them, and you are afraid that they'll get hit. If your dog does this here is a method to get him to stop.

First of all, your dog does this because they are excited to go to a completely new place to explore or are just happy to be back home.

If you sense that your dog is about to bolt when you open the car door, try to catch your dog and put her back in the car seat. Say "NO, SHAME ON YOU." If she tries to bolt again get a scruff grip and put her in the seat again.

If you are on the other side of the car, use a shaker bottle or spray bottle to startle her and make her go back in.

When you go to open the car door, make her sit with a hand signal and make her continue to sit until you open the door and giver the signal that she can exit.

Consistent correction when your dog bolts from the car works and remember to give lots of positive attention. Try to practice this at home, when you don't need to drive, a few times a day and your dog should pick this up quickly.

Verbal commands and hand signals, when properly conditioned should work great to keep your dog from running from the car. Try putting some of these methods to use today before it is too late.
