The Colder Season Could Be the Perfect Time to Create Usable Things Using Tires and Eye Bolt Secures

If you have some old tires lying around then you have a perfect form for pouring concrete or filling with sand and dirt. Sounds exciting, huh? Well, wait until you read about what you can create using this rubber foundation when you add the utility of an eye bolt or two and some various forms of rope!

Remember the simplicity of the game of tetherball - no console or Wii required? Well you can replicate this traditional family game by using a tire. Simply place the tire on a clean dirt surface and line the bottom with some newspaper. Next fill the interior of the tire with a mix of concrete and while the concrete is still wet, add an upright pole. Once the base is completely dry, you will need to drill the appropriate eye bolt into the pole and attach the rope and ball. Stand back and have a ball.

This same type of system can also be employed in the garden. Rather then adding a tall pole as for our tether ball, add a smaller series of 1" x 1" x 5' poles between several dirt-filled tires. Insert a small eye bolt at various spots on each support and then string twine between each set of bolts to create a support for your trailing beans or tomatoes to climb. Because the tires can be moved, if inclimate weather is approaching you are able to lay down the vines until the storm passes.

A final use for this basic set up would be to prepare two bases such as with a tetherball pole. Add a heavy duty eye bolt at each pole and connect with a hose or wire rope that can be used to hang your laundry. There is nothing sweeter on a Spring day then fresh sheets that have been dried in the sun and cool breeze. Just pour a glass of lemonade and you will feel as if you are living in another, simpler time...enjoy!
