Toggle Bolts

When it comes to securing things to the wall there are few ways of doing it better than by using toggle bolts. Whilst there are all sorts of systems, from your basic screw to 'no more nails' glue the fact is that if you are hanging something heavy or precious you need something reliable.

And they don't come much more reliable than toggle bolts. They are the 'big daddy' of bolt systems. Your go to move for hanging anything that needs good, old fashioned securing.

So what exactly are they?

Well, they are a type of wall anchor/screw that come in two parts. The first is a traditionally made screw, machined and threaded.... the sort that everybody uses a few times a year and thinks nothing of it.

The second part is a bit more interesting. It is a metal catch (or anchor) that s attached to the screw. When you are sliding the screw into the drill hole it stays flush to the screw, but once the end is through the other side it unclamps the catch and anchors itself to the far side of the wall.

This system means that it is able to take a huge amount of weight. Even the smallest of the toggle bolts - 1/8" - will hold 50lbs on a 1/3 inch dry wall. That is a huge amount of weight for something of it's size.

This weight bearing capacity is what makes toggle bolts so popular. Of course it is not just walls that benefit from it's ability to hold heavy objects - they are fast becoming the 'weapon of choice' when it comes to fitting things to the ceiling - such as heavy light fittings like chandeliers.

They are one of the most useful tools on the market today, so if you are thinking of hanging anything form your walls or ceiling toggle bolts should be the first and last thing on your mind.

But listen, I've only scratched the surface with the information in this article. If you want to know more about Toggle Bolts then you simply must visit www.togglebolts.org where all the information will be revealed to you.
